Story of yugodom

Welcome

Welcome to a Yugodom multifunctional space! Here, you can embark on a unique time travel experience to past Yugoslavia — stay, host events, or create a captivating photo or video shoot by joining us in exploring an authentic collection of a Yugoslav mid-century modern design and beyond from the era.

Name

The name Yugodom comes from two words — Yugo, a shorthand for Yugoslavia (SFRY), a country that no longer exists on maps, and dom, which means home in most languages used in former Yugoslavia. Hence, Yugodom signifies Yugoslav Home.

LOCATION

Nestled in the heart of Dorćol, the Serbian capital’s vibrant neighborhood, Yugodom graces Belgrade’s Strahinjića bana street, surrounded by lush sycamore trees.

Situated in a historic residential building from the late 1950s, constructed initially for JNA (Yugoslav National Army) officials and their families, Yugodom stands out with its social-realist architectural style. These structures are strong, firm, and solid in architecture.  Clean lines and – spacious, with bright, big windows with lots of natural light.

These characteristics describe both this type of edifice and Yugodom. This unique locale is one of the few pedestrian-only sections of the street, providing a car-free atmosphere steps away from the vivid and colorful Bajloni farmers market and the iconic Skadarlija.
